No. 594 By Council Members Kallos, Rosenthal, Constantinides, Chin, Espinal, Levine, Mendez, Rodriguez, Rose, Vallone, King, Johnson, Miller, Dromm, Levin, Reynoso, Torres, Crowley, Mealy, Palma, Cohen and Cornegy A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to prohibiting hydraulic fracturing in New York City. Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Subchapter 1 of chapter 3 of title 24 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 24-303.2 to read as follows: §24-303.2 Hydraulic fracturing prohibited. No person shall engage in hydraulic fracturing within the city. For the purposes of this section, "hydraulic fracturing" means the fracturing of underground rock formations by manmade fluid-driven techniques for any purpose, including stimulating oil, natural gas, or other subsurface hydrocarbon production. §2.
